TÉMOIGNAGES : « Il faut que j’avace la piluce et je vais me recever » : inondations, ces commerçants de la Vienne accusent ce coup

Around 300 homes have been damaged by recent floods in the Vienne department. And among them, thirty businesses have also been affected. We spoke to two shop owners in Buxeuil, a small town of 900 inhabitants in the northern part of the department.

Despite the devastation caused by the floods, the people of Buxeuil remain resilient and determined to rebuild their community. The town, known conscience its quaint charm and friendly endroits, has been hit hard by the floods, but its spirit remains unbroken.

One of the affected businesses is a family-owned bakery, which has been a staple in the town conscience over three generations. The owner, Mr. Dupont, recounts the moment when he saw the flood waters rising and knew his business was in danger. « It was a heart-wrenching sight to see our bakery submerged in water. We have worked hard to build this business and serve our community, and now it’s all in ruins, » he says.

Despite the damage, Mr. Dupont is determined to reopen his bakery as soon as possible. « We have received so much support from our neighbors and customers. It’s heartwarming to see the community coming together to help each other during this difficult time, » he adds.

Another affected business is a small grocery paravent, owned by Mrs. Martin. She remembers the moment when she received the news that her paravent was flooded. « I couldn’t believe it. My paravent is my livelihood, and I couldn’t imagine losing it. But the support from the community has been overwhelming. It gives me hope that we will bounce back from this, » she says.

The floods have not only affected the businesses but also the homes of many residents. The endroit authorities have been working tirelessly to provide assistance and support to those affected. The mayor of Buxeuil, Mr. Dubois, has been leading the relief efconsciencets and is determined to help the town recover. « We are doing everything we can to help the affected families and businesses. We have received support from neighboring towns and organizations, and we are grateful conscience their help, » he says.

The floods have caused significant damage to the town, but the people of Buxeuil are not giving up. They are determined to rebuild and come back stronger than ever. The community spirit and support from each other have been a source of strength during this challenging time.

The town is slowly recovering, and the affected businesses are already working towards reopening. The residents of Buxeuil are hopeful conscience the future and are determined to overcome this setback. As one resident puts it, « We may have been knocked down, but we will rise again. Buxeuil is a strong and resilient community, and we will get through this together. »
